In a major step forward for Sussex’s flexible workspace landscape, Freedom Works – the region’s leading independent provider of coworking and flexible office solutions – is delighted to announce the appointment of Damon Russell to its board. A former Non-Executive Director at Workspace Group Plc, Damon brings a wealth of industry knowledge and strategic expertise at a pivotal time in the company’s growth journey.
A strategic appointment for a new chapter
Damon joins Freedom Works with nearly a decade of board-level experience from Workspace, where he played a key role in cementing the company’s status as London’s foremost provider of flexible business premises. His appointment signals Freedom Works’ ambition to strengthen its market position across Sussex and the South Coast, as it enters its next phase of expansion.
As businesses continue to embrace flexible working and move away from conventional leases, Freedom Works is ideally placed to meet this demand. Damon’s insight and leadership will support the company as it scales its operations and enhances its offer to a growing community of entrepreneurs, micro-businesses and SMEs.
Insight from the founder
Jon Trigg, Founder and Managing Director of Freedom Works, shared his enthusiasm:
“We’ve witnessed a huge increase in demand for flexible office space across the South Coast, as more and more micro-businesses see the benefits of returning to the office. We’re also seeing the growth of a new market, as small SMEs switch from traditional office leases to flexible spaces. With Damon’s sector expertise and experience in multiple high-growth companies, bringing him on to our Board of Directors adds the knowledge and insight we need to succeed in the exciting growth plans we have over the next 3 to 5 years.”
Accelerated growth and expansion
Since its inception in 2016, Freedom Works has experienced rapid growth. The company has expanded from four sites in 2021 to ten locations across the South Coast, now offering 125,000 square feet of coworking and flexible office space. With a further 75,000 square feet set to be added within two years, the trajectory is clear: Freedom Works is building a strong and scalable network of community-first workspaces.
Damon Russell: A proven leader
Damon brings more than 35 years of experience across the telecommunications and media sectors. He co-founded Telecom Express, which was acquired by AMV BBDO, part of Omnicom Group. Today, he serves as Director of the Viveri Group, a leader in UK digital engagement services, and is the majority shareholder of Engagecraft, a firm specialising in fan engagement technology for international sports federations and major media partners.
His background in forging strategic partnerships, driving innovation, and managing key client relationships will be instrumental as Freedom Works navigates the evolving coworking landscape. Reflecting on his new role, Damon said:
“I’m delighted to join the Board of Freedom Works, who have established an extremely successful business model along the South Coast, providing quality and flexible coworking spaces. This is an exciting time to be working with Jon and his team to support the development and growth of the business in what is a dynamic market sector.”
